Hair restoration: If they take from the sides of head and put it on top, then are the sides bald?

During hair restoration surgery, I understand that they take hair follicles from the sides and back of the head and put it where you are balding. So does that mean that the sides and back of your head are now partially bald?Hair restoration: If they take from the sides of head and put it on top, then are the sides bald?
No. They bunch up the skin on a line on the back of the head (dosen't extend much into the sides), take out that strip, extract the hair follicles from that, and transplant that. They staple the strip line closed, and it heals into a fine line. See the Hairsite: http://hairsite.com/
